Head Cold 1 > Workout 0

What better way to throw off your goals for the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving and the Holidays?

Nothing like a good ol’ sinus infection!

It started creeping its nasty little way into my throat Sunday morning but I pushed it aside with some cardio and leg-day. I was feeling fine the rest of the day until I went to bed.

Monday morning: headache, stuffy nose, sore throat, mucus, the works..

How do you manage a sinus infection at work?

Step 1: Stay calm. If you plan to stick out the day then don’t let the feelings of being sick overwhelm you.

Step 2: Get some mint tea from Starbucks and ask for honey (great for soothing sore throats)

Step 3: In addition to tea, stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water and keep a stash of Emergen-C packets!

Step 4: Eat something healthy to keep you on track and feeling good rather than succumbing to junk food. Get a cup of soup if you can!

Step 4: Yay! Time to head home and crawl into bed!

Step 5: Your body needs rest, get into bed with a cup of tea and bowl of soup.

Step 6; Lights out!

One of the hardest moments I have had yet to battle during my weight loss journey is getting sick. Even a minor sinus infection can set you back in your progress. However, part of my journey involves Self-Care. I knew my body needed time to rest and recover so I did exactly that.

I skipped my workout and opted for my pj’s and binge-watching YOU on Lifetime. There was no guilt or shame because I knew it’s what my body needed. Taking care of yourself is always the first lesson in self-love. The second part is not using it as an excuse to eat junk food and ruin your progress. I am more likely to recover faster by giving my body the proper medicine and rest I need rather than junk food and staying up late.

It’s ok to workout if you:

  • Sneezing
  • Coughing
  • Runny Nose
  • Sore Throat
  • Nasal Congestion

Skip the workout if you:

  • Fever
  • Body Aches
  • Upset Stomach
  • Flu
  • Vomiting

Always remember to listen to your body. If you start to workout and don’t feel good while doing it, then stop and rest. Sitting in the sauna is also a good way to open up your lungs and get in more oxygen!

Feel better soon!
